How We Waste Time

Time, time is something that has been emphasized time and time again as being something of great importance. Especially with the new year being a fresh slate, many a new resolution is drawn on determining what needs to be accomplished. 12 new months lie ahead, what is to be done with them?

They ought not be wasted as so often has been said. Don’t just sit around, playing video games or anything else that can be seen as idling your time. Take that time and engage in something productive. So that by the end of it, you have something to show for that time.

But there is another way in which we waste time. One that is more commonly overlooked. And that is all the time we spend mopping on things that we cannot control. It distracts us from all that we can achieve by diverting our attention to abstract fabrications that is divorced from reality.

This type of time wasting can take many different forms, from being angry with someone who did God knows what, to worrying on whether a plan is going to work out or not. The point is, none of it is going to improve your position.

More Then Just Time, Your Life’s Energy

And what you are wasting is not only time, but emotional energy as well. I’m sure you’ve heard the term ‘blood sweat and tears’ used? Well it’s true, anything worth achieving involves a lot of emotional toil to get a weight moved from one place to another.

No, all that energy has been spent on things that don’t achieve anything. Only an emotional clout hanging above your head. So what can be done about this? It is so easy for someone to say that one should stop brooding over issues and focus on what can be done. That’s easy. But to actually attempt to do something about it, that is more difficult. So here is a suggestion, just as we are advised to go outside and get some exercise rather then sit indoors, occupy yourself with some task to divert your emotional energy. They say an idle mind is a devil’s playground, so don’t be idle. Keep things in motion and your emotions will run along with it.
