Where Did The Dreams Go?

I want to be a firefighter!

I want to be a rock star!

I want to e a power ranger!

Whatever happened to these childhood dreams?

During our formative years, we were young and filled with emotions. Which is why it is children normally that cry and throw tantrums.

But from the lofty aspirations to the emotional outbursts, what does it all represent? Passion. These actions occurred because it is what they truly believed in. It’s where their heart is telling them to go.

How about when we grow into adulthood? The world hits us. We got bills to pay. Mouths to feed. With pressing needs, dreams are set aside because we say to ourselves that we need to be realistic. So instead of being the rock star or power ranger, we come the accountant. The desk jockey that sits behind a desk rather then stand in front of a crowd. And what does that lead to? Likely a whole lot of regret.

How To Merge Passion and Logic

So what is to be done then? We cannot simply base all our decisions on passion and emotion, as these can change at a moments notice. But a purely logical approach turns us into robots, just another gear in the system. What we can do instead is go after a very traditional path, but put all our creative energies into it to make it our own. In other words, putting our passion into logic.

This goes beyond just being another drone in the assembly line, it’s about creating something that is uniquely your own. It could be in a very logic based field, think banking, insurance and law, but put all your creative energies into it to open up a new angle.

In this union of logic and passion, you will have made your mark on the universe.

About Kingston’s Journey Series: Kingston’s Journey is a lifelong series. This is the travel journal I take with me. Whether you have questions such as how to change my life or how to travel the world, I think you’ll find value in the life lessons I’ve experienced and documented in this travel notebook. They may serve as travel inspiration for you. In Chinese, there is a saying, “讀萬卷書,不如行千里路.” This means, instead of reading ten thousand books, why don’t you walk a thousand miles. This is my inspiration to travel every nation (or as many as possible) in my pursuit of my global MBA by learning as much as possible and recording these life lessons learned only by travel. In the end, I think the achievement of dreams, personal growth & aspirations out there through travel and adventure will lead to a more fulfilling life. Living and experiencing the “now” is how I’ll make my life a great memory in the future.
